How to Make an International CV? 11 Steps to Follow

Create Your Resume Now

CV formats differ from country to country, so it’s important to know what a curriculum vitae looks like in the country of interest. For example, a CV format in India features a candidate’s photograph, while the perfect CV in the U.K. and the Australian CV format don’t have photos or much personal information. You should research the standard for the country you want to work in and adjust your application accordingly.

However, there are some general guidelines you can follow to write a CV that can be easily adapted to international job offers:

  1. Select a professional CV template or make a good CV design yourself.
  2. Choose the best CV format to present your qualifications (the reverse-chronological format is recommended for most situations).
  3. Add your contact information, including your full name, job title, e-mail address, and phone number.
  4. Mention your visa information to ensure you’re eligible for work in the chosen country.
  5. Write a professional CV profile, such as a career objective or a summary of qualifications.
  6. List your relevant work experience along with career achievements—remember to highlight experiences related to working in a cross-cultural environment.
  7. Add an education section with academic accomplishments.
  8. Make a skill section including a mix of professional skills, soft skills, and technical skills—put emphasis on transferable skills that can make you a good fit for an international setting.
  9. Add language skills that can help you adapt to a new environment.
  10. Select extra sections that can include relevant additional CV information—for example, add international volunteer experience or mention attending conferences abroad.
  11. Find a professional translation service if necessary—don’t use Google Translate for your CV, it’ll make you look unprofessional.
